Frank Lee Mayo

Frank Lee Mayo, 90, of Hawkeye, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at his home in Hawkeye.

Private Family Services will be held at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Hawkeye. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, rural Hawkeye with military rites. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye is assisting the family. In Lieu of flowers or memorials, friends may simply send condolences to the family.

Frank Lee, son of Archie and Velma (West) Mayo, was born March 27, 1926, at the family home near Alpha. He graduated from the Alpha Consolidated School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater under General George S. Patton. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He married Marlene Uttecht, on December 30, 1949, at the Hawkeye Methodist Church. They farmed together for fifty-two years, retiring in 2005 in Hawkeye. He was a member of the Alpha American Legion for sixty-nine years.

In addition to his wife Marlene of Hawkeye, he is survived by one son, Tom (Deb) Mayo of Hawkeye; two grandchildren, Christopher (Kristin) Mayo and Heather (Rocky) Dowd; five great-grandchildren, Landon, Liam, and Lincoln Dowd, and Madison and Alexis Mayo; and a sister, Marjorie Warnke of Maynard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Mayo; and a sister, Phyllis Mayo who died in infancy.
